Dr. Hughes grew up in Kanata and attended Bell High School. She graduated with distinction from Queen’s University in 2020 with an honours degree in Life Sciences and Drama. She obtained her Doctor of Optometry degree in 2024, graduating on the Dean’s Honour List.
During her optometry program, Dr. Hughes volunteered in an eye care mission to Malawi with VOSH International to provide eye exams, eye glasses, and ocular health screenings in schools and orphanages where children otherwise had no access to vision care. Dr. Hughes also completed clinical externships in Sarnia, ON and rural Smithers, BC, where she gained valuable experience in treating various ocular diseases. She was also the Marketing and Communications Director for the Canadian Association of Optometry Students.
Dr. Hughes is an active member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists, the Ontario Association of Optometrists, and the Ottawa Society of Optometrists.
